One of the most iconic traditions on the first day of school in Germany is the Schultüte. It is a giant, decorated cone filled with surprises. Parents usually prepare these Schultüten for their children and give them on the first day of school. This gesture aims to make the day more exciting and motivating for the children.
At La Apostólica, we keep up with this tradition and organize a special welcome for our beloved 1st grade primary school students every year.
To ensure a smooth start, we kindly ask you to arrive on time and drop off your children at the preschool section. Our teaching staff will be waiting to receive the children and start the welcome parade together to their primary school classrooms. Your presence as a parent will make this event even more special.

How to Prepare the Schultüte
The "Schultüte" is a large, decorated cardboard or paper cone filled with sweets, school supplies, and small gifts. Parents and grandparents usually give this surprise to the children to make their first day of school more special and exciting. The idea is that the "Schultüte" helps children feel happy and motivated as they start their new educational stage.
For this activity, we ask for your support in creating a cardboard cone for each of your children. The recommended contents for the cone are items for daily use in their new school stage, such as markers, colored pencils, crayons, and more.
Materials:
- 1 x Cardboard 50 x 65 centimeters of any color
- 1 x Crepe paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Cord/gift ribbon about 50 centimeters for the circle
- Creative decorations to your liking

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUGUST 27th:
- That day, your child should wear a badge with their name and grade.
For example:
Philipp Dinges, 1st F
(You will have this information the week before when you deliver the school supplies to the school).
- Children will only bring their Schultüte and lunchbox.
- For that day only, drop off the children at the preschool building.
- Parents will be directed to the primary school plaza to form the welcome line along with teachers and all the students from other primary school grades.
The combination of cultural traditions, integration activities, and a focus on education creates an environment conducive to enthusiasm and learning from the very first day. We are eager to welcome your children at this significant stage of their lives.
